Visiting Cartecay Vineyards

After our first wine tasting, we drove up to Jasper to stop in at Coach’s Cuts Hoagies for some sandwiches to go, and were on our way to Cartecay Vineyards.  The first thing you notice is their signature chimney and seating area overlooking the vineyards. It was a cold day when we visited, but the fire in the chimney had lured some visitors to enjoy a tasting outside. The tasting barn has a cozy seating, porches, and an upstairs event area.   Our tasting led to purchasing a bottle of their 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which we took upstairs to enjoy with our sandwiches and live music. Cartecay regularly host artists on the weekends; today’s musician was Keith Burton. We had a relaxed afternoon with good wine, good food, and good music.

Cold Beauty

Vineyards are wonderful in the summer, with the vines leafing out and fruit developing. However, I love the stark winter days, with crisp blue skies. You can enjoy sharing wine bundled up by an outdoor fire, or inside warm and cozy. What wineries do you like to visit on a cold winter’s day?
