If you’ve never been to any of the wineries in North Georgia, a visit to Yonah Mountain Vineyards would be a great place to start. The tasting room at  opens at 11:00 am on Fridays and on our most recent visit we arrived just after noon. If you can get away from work, we’ve found that weekdays are ideal for visiting North Georgia wineries, avoiding sometimes big weekend crowds on Saturdays and Sundays. On this visit we got to chat with the staff and ask lots of questions about the wines.

We sampled the red flight which consisted of:

  • 2016 Pinot Noir
  • 2015 Estate Meritage
  • 2015 Merlot
  • 2015 Malbec
  • Genesis 9 blend

All are good wines, with the Meritage (Bordeax style blend) being the only 100% estate grown wine. Yonah grows a number of varietals, including Merlot and Cab but they also source grapes from California. My favorite was the Genesis 9, while Nancy preferred the Pinot Noir. The Pinot was  bolder than you would typically expect and we both agreed it was one of Yonah’s best.

The outside seating area was perfect for lunch which consisted of a glass of wine and a couple of sandwiches we brought. There are tables and lots of seating with a great view of the vineyards and Yonah Mountain. You can purchase plates of cheese and crackers inside the tasting room to go with your wine!

We’ve visited Yonah several times before and I’m sure we’ll visit again! For more information, check out our page on Yonah Mountain or their website.a visit
